The general objective of the study (in combination with the Origin-Destination Surveys and the Public Transport Survey) was to identify the characteristics of transportation in the Attica region and to estimate the future demand. POLINDE undertook the following: A) Preparation, planning and organization of counts at the "internal ring" of Athens B) Traffic counts and site works • Manual traffic volume and classification counts • 24-hour automatic traffic volume counts • Manual turning movement and classification counts • 24-hour automatic traffic volume counts at the junctions' entrances • Vehicle Occupancy Counts • Traffic volume/ classification counts and Vehicle Occupancy Counts in three levels • Journey times surveys • Counts in Urban areas (Moving Observer method) • Counts in Semi-urban and Peri-urban areas (Number Plate Recognition method) C) Data processing and analysis
