National Transport Plan for Greece (Greece)

2017 - 2017

The purpose of the project is to provide the basis for sustainable transport infrastructure and service development in Greece over the medium to long term, which will contribute to the competitiveness of the transport sector of the country. The National Transport Plan will facilitate the identification and justification of future necessary policies and investments in the transport sector. POLINDE undertook comprehensive field surveys in the period 18th September to 20th October 2017, with the main aim to collect representative traffic data that reflect the typical period for transport. More specifically, the surveys included user interviews and traffic counts at selected links and nodes of the road, rail, maritime and air transport network. The key selection criterion for the survey locations was to cover the characteristics of the most important passenger and vehicle movements around Greece, so that a complete picture of the current patterns of transport demand is attained. The results of the surveys were used to calibrate and validate the transport model (in AADT level).
